| Spelling is
an important part of communication. In order to improve students'
spelling abilitywe will spend two weeks on each word unit and they will be expected to practice each week. We
will work on a unit of fifteen pattern-related words (i.e. VCCV words,
compound words, short vowel words) along with five content-related or
high frequency words. Students will complete assignments each week
and take a test every other Friday. Spelling grades
will also be taken regularly from other assignments, especially reading
and writing assignments. When
students misspell words they should know in their daily work, points
will be deducted from their spelling grade. Words they
should be expected to know are those on the No
Excuses List, words we've worked on in spelling units, and words
that appear in the text of the assignment (in the question or chapter). Students also have personal spelling dictionaries (dictionary of frequently used words) that they may use on almost any assignment. This is a great tool for improving spelling. |
